Job description

Soil Removal
Casebrook, Christchurch

Published on 8 October 2024

I need someone to remove the soil and green waste from a garden that has been overtaken by the plant 'Alstroemeria' (it is not flowering, the leaves are currently only a few centimetres high). This plant sends down tubers deep into the ground and expands rapidly by growing rhizomes so deep digging may be required. The soil is compacted in some places. The garden is 13 metres long and varies between 2 to 3 metres wide. I have made a start and piled some soil at the gate end for easier removal. You will need to work around the roots of 4 camellia trees and a few other plants; care will be needed so not to damage them. Some soil will need to be left for these trees but hopefully the tubers under them can be removed, so a little finesse will be required. This is otherwise a straight forward labouring job. I expect you will have your own trailer and garden tools including a wheelbarrow. A high level of fitness essential. I am keen to get onto this job asap so if this sounds like you and would like to quote for it please get in touch.

The job was to remove a first load of excavated soil full of Alstroemeria tubers from a garden being refreshed. Tj arrived an hour late with a text coming just before arrival. Barely did the basics of soil removal - I had to ask him to remove soil I swept up that was obviously ready to be removed. Alstroemeria tubers were left on the lawn. A good tradie looking to secure the next soil removal load might have even removed a little soft top soil especially since there was room in the trailer.

Tradesperson reply
"Hi Karen, Sorry for the late text. I believe we agreed on 2 trailer loads, and both were filled to capacity without overloading. I appreciate your help, and if you needed more done, I was available and could have done it on-site.I cleaned up, and you were happy with the work at the time. Thanks for the feedback—I’ll take it on board. In the future, it’d be great to discuss any concerns before tradie leave to avoid issues."
