One of the internal rooms in our house has an old door. It currently has a rim lock door handle on it. The door doesn't latch closed, because the latch has stopped working and there is nothing for the latch to connect into on the frame anyway. The door itself is narrow at around 20mm although at the door handle there is a reinforcing piece of timber that goes across the door which increases the overall thickness to 44mm. I want to install a proper passage knobset with a latch into the door if possible. That would involve removing the old rim lock (I can do that before you arrive), patching up the hole (I can paint over after), and then installing the new knobset. You could use the existing hole, although the backset is 80cm and I haven't seen any knobsets that can be adjusted to that backset. I haven't purchased the knobset yet, and am open to suggestions.

Ian withdrew his quote and cancelled my job without further explanation. The work was never done, so can't really comment on quality.
