Fitting door hardware

I have to install an interior door privacy hardware- To keep a dog out of a bed room. I have the The hardware but the door needs to be cut further 54 mm to fit in the lock mechanism. It has a hole cut previously for the original hardware that is too small- and our home drill bit won’t work as it has nothing to catch on too. So a router maybe required.
