Rationalize our home entertainment devices

We've got a Sony HDD/DVD recorder. Once upon a time we were able to record stuff onto it from the TV, but then a few years ago we upgraded to a Samsung smart TV, and we lost that functionality. It looks like the only output from the TV that might allow recording is "IR Out" (see first pic). Can you install a converter to feed that into the inputs to the Sony recorder (L audio, R audio, video, ending it a massive male plug) and an "S Video" port (see second pic)? If so, the job is yours! If not, I will throw out the Sony recorder.
