Vintage material curtains modernised

I'm looking to get some curtains , which are made with beautiful vintage material, lined with black out curtain material and secured so they can become curtains suitable for my young daughter's bedroom. At the moment they have had curtain tape added and hooks attached to that and they work ok, but I know there's a big risk of them fraying and they let far too much light in. Material is from my mum's grandparents home so super special.
