I have tried to put up the curtain rods myself in my apartment. I used an electric stud finder however I think they were metal studs not wooden studs. I could not screw into them. So I used wall plugs in the dry wall which seemed to work for a few months. Now the curtain rods have ripped out of the wall leaving holes in the gib. So today I have tried to screw the brackets into the actual wooden frame. But the wood is actually splitting. I am at a loss of how to get these curtain rods up.
