Partial external cedar recladding

I have just purchased a property which has damaged cladding on the outside of the house (cracking and sun damage). It has been 'painted' with a terrible plastic like coating which is flaking off. I would like someone to come and take a look, and let me know how much of the house needs to be redone and how much it will approximately cost. Any recommendations on how to treat the cladding after (stain? paint? other?) would also be greatly appreciated.
