Tapestry repair

I recently purchased a large (2m x 2.6m) old tapestry. It is threadbare in places and ripped in others. Given it's really just a large wall carpet, I was wondering if a carpet repairer might be able to do something to get it back to a usable state. It needs cleaning too.
