Repair and tile fireplace

I had a wood burner put in an existing fireplace and they made a bit of a mess to the surrounds by adding a fireproof board and damaging the existing surround (photos included) I think it needs repairing/improving and then tiling. Would love to add a mantel. This is not urgent.
