Assessment/repair of structural beam

We are looking for professional advice regarding a supporting beam in our house that appears to be degrading due to weather damage. The end of the beam protrudes from the wall and the wood that is exposed to the elements has become 'crumbly', please refer to attached photos. We want to know how serious this is and what can be done to prevent further damage.
