We are considering installing an aluminium framed double glazed window in the exterior wall of our town house. The wall is load-bearing, at ground level in a two level building with a brick veneer exterior and Gib interior lining. The work will include finishing the external lining and exterior brickwork after installation of the window. We understand that a building consent will be required for the work and that it needs to be done or at least supervised by a Licensed Building Practitioner and that other trades will also likely be required including for the Gib finishing and brickwork. If someone is interested in considering this project we would like to talk to them about the practicality of what we have in mind, the options in respect to the window unit to be used and its size and positioning, what additional work may be needed to the wall framing to accommodate the window and retain the strength of the wall and to get an idea of the likely approximate cost of the work.
