Job description

General Building
Waimakariri

I have a concrete water tank (12 cubic metres) which I no longer use. The wife wants to make it into a cheese store. It would need to be pretty well made as it will end up being a show piece. I want a door hole cutting into it and a door making so I can walk into it. And then some shelving installed. The shelving might actually be cheaper to just buy units and make them up, as they need to be removable (to hose down and scrub clean). The shelving needs to be untreated pine - thin slats so when the cheese is sitting on the shelf air can get to the bottom of the cheese. Similar to the picture attached. Dimensions are approximately 1000mm width, 400mm deep, and 1500mm high. The first shelf will be at 500mm, second shelf at 1000mm and the top shelf at 1500mm. There will need to be 5 individual shelf units as they will be space in a semi-hexagonal shape inside the circular water tank. Ideally the concrete-cut-out needs to be retained and used as part of the door, to help maintain an even temperature , however I think this is a tall-order. Lol. If this is possible, then a 'false door' (like a veneer) could be attached to the concrete-cut-out. Maybe the door made of recycled Macro sleepers, huge hinges, very rustic. Standard size - typically 800mm width and 2000mm high. Although wider would be better as the door needs to have a bit of a 'wow' factor to it. I have attached a picture of a rustic door to give you some idea. Rustic wood and big hinges. . I have attached a few photos of a water tank similar in size to the one I have with a door cut into it. The water tank dimensions are roughly 2.8m high and 3m diameter. Thickness of the concrete is likely to be 100mm. Would suit a tradesperson with a bit of creativity. Let's talk ...... :-)

Alistair did a fantastic job of cutting a doorway into my old concrete water tank, and then making a great looking rustic door from scratch.
