Checking damp in a house

My house is against a hill where the spare room, at the back, is built against the hillside. The room is always musty smelling and seems to be getting worse. If I put things in drawers and close them then they smell mouldy. I don't know how to go about fixing this, so looking for offers, or ideas of what checks can be done.
