Fireplace removal or concealment

We have a fireplace we’d like either removed or covered up - budget dependant as to which. The glass has been broken and we have small children so it’s not safe. We’d rather not just fix the glass as the fireplace is ugly anyway and doesn’t work. We’d like it either completely gone to create more room or covered so that we can still use it as a shelf or incorporate some kind of functionality to it. Unsure of the cost for this type of work so quotes appreciated
