My house has a garage /workshop with two problems: 1) The old concrete floor (approx. 8mx2.7m) has no damp proof course, is damp in places and is cracked and crumbling a little in places. 2) The height between the slab and beams is around 1.84m (too low to get a mini digger in I think) and I’m 1.92m tall. I’m therefore looking at removing the existing floor (or possibly cutting a walkway strip down the middle of it), and installing a new concrete slab with a damp proof course or membrane, with the new concrete floor surface to end up approximately 200mm lower than the current ground level. The current slab is bordered by some 200mm to 500m high old stone retaining walls, on which some of the house walls rest, so whatever is done must not undermine those.
