Like many on the Kapiti coast, our house is built on sloping land with a suspended timber floor above a subfloor area with an earth bank. The house is over 40 years old but the heavier rain of recent times, particularly the last year, has caused increased dampness and subsoil water seepage from underground springs and rising water table. This has even caused small pieces of the earth bank to break off. We want to explore the possibillity of building a retaining wall in the subfloor area to provide stability or look at alternative drainage solutions. The earth bank is approximately 2 metres high and 6 metres wide. This is (we think) a reasonably complex issue.
