Retaining wall

We would like a 16 metre (estimate) wooden boundary wall done between our house and neighbour's. Our current wall (which will be coming down) is holding up some land but not sure if it needs to be a retaining wall or just a reinforced wooden fencing wall. Pictures attached of current fence and boundary line. The trees alongside the fence will need to be removed.
