Our aim is to get much more use out of the western end of our house, which has our kitchen/informal dining area that was built as an extension to the house in the 90s, and backyard. Currently there is a standard backdoor leading out to a small deck on the northern side of the house & a small backyard across the western end of the house. Our high-level idea is to replace this with a larger deck that wraps-around to include the western side of the house, and have doors (either sliding or bi-fold) on both the western and northern walls to access this deck. In other words, vastly improved indoor/outdoor flow & make this area of the house/small back yard much more usable. We have ideas about what we want to achieve in terms of the usability of this space, and a basic design, so interested in specialist help for more creative ideas about how to really maximize this space even more as we're sure there are things we haven't considered. This is especially as small balcony has already been built on the roof above the kitchen-dining area, but there is currently no way to access it. This balcony was built by a previous owner when the extension was done, and we assume their plan was to also convert the roofspace into another living area with access to the balcony from that ... but that second part never got done. As part of the work we are planning, we're keen to investigate options to access that balcony area too, it would be an added bonus to our outdoor living space. This work is important to us, but not urgent, so there are no immediate deadlines although we are keen to make progress. Regards.
