Large American Whirlpool fridge requires reconditioning

We have a 21 year old Whirlpool fridge that has broken down. It may be uneconomical to repair, but we want to get it checked out because they don't build them like this any more. It shorted out recently, I removed a fried bug from the terminals but that may or may not have been part of the problem, as now it no longer shorts out but the condenser does not turn on, only the light. It's a Whirlpool --- l side-by-side fridge freezer.
