Dishwasher not getting enough water

I need someone to have a look and see if its possible to fix the amount of water getting to my dishwasher. The previous owners claimed it was due to the hot water cylinder, but the instruction manual for the dishwasher says to use only cold water. So it might be as simple as connecting it to the cold water. It shows a check water light when attempting to run it, and I just want a quick fix.
