Electric oven short circuiting

Originally we had an issue where the hobs, oven fans and lights would all work, but the oven would just not heat up at all. We have since found that a cable coming from the thermostat had burnt out, so we removed the burnt bit and reconnected it. The oven did start working, however it will repeadidly switch itself off now (normally when it's reached the required temperature) and then come back on again. I imagine something is shorting somewhere.
