Dishwasher repair/service

Dishwasher is old and used daily and seems to operate, but does not wash dishes. It just rinses them a little bit. I've confirmed that it isn't tall plates stopping the spinny thing from working. The filter is clear. Dishwashing powder is being used. Hoping we can get a good service from someone with plenty of experience.
