Kiwi summers and the backyard swimming pool go hand in hand. But do you know what essential swimming pool maintenance it will require?&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Top 5 swimming pool maintenance tips<\/h2>\n<p>Kids, adults and even dogs love a good swim during summer. In fact, it is unsurprisingly the busiest time of the year for our pools and the time when the most maintenance is done. With all the extra use, our swimming pools under pressure. We must keep on top of things to prevent them becoming unusable. So, we\u2019ve put together our top five swimming pool maintenance tips to help your pool remain in tip top condition.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Daily Checks \u2013 Every day you should check the pH of your pool water, keeping it between 7.2-7.8. You\u2019ll also need to have your pool filter running at least 10 hours a day, preferably all the time though. As well as removing any debris, you\u2019ll need to clean out your skimmer basket and ensure you add chlorine once each day.<\/li>\n<li>Weekly Checks \u2013 Once a week, you will need to check the chlorine, alkaline and pH levels in your pool. Based on these results, you\u2019ll need to adjust your level of Free Available Chlorine with chlorine products. Vacuum your pool once a week. You also must add an algicide to prevent algae and other plant growth.<\/li>\n<li>Once a Season Checks \u2013 before you open your pool for the summer, there are quite a few one-off checks you\u2019ll need to do. These include:\n<ul>\n<li>Filter and pump box maintenance<\/li>\n<li>Hardware checks \u2013 ladders, handrails, diving boards should all be in good condition or repaired<\/li>\n<li>Electric components must be checked by an electrician to ensure they are in safe working order<\/li>\n<li>Pool cover \u2013 clean and free of algae and tears<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Keep your chemicals and tools in a locked shed.
