Wooden door hole repair.

I have two holes in two wooden doors just normal bedroom doors. The holes don't go through to the other side. They are the size of a closed fist. I'm not sure if the wood is painted or stained but pretty positive it's stained. It's hollow on the inside almost like the wood is cardboard. Was wondering if anyone can fix these without replacing both doors.
