Garage ceiling repair

I have a large storage area in the garage which has one support, supposedly, to the rafters. On inspecting this from the roof cavity I see it is not attached to the rafter and the ceiling is being compromised. It is attached to horizontal boards below the rafters which have started to come away from the rafters. I would like this repaired and the storage area supported.
