| Description | Recently I came home to find that my external gas water heater was not producing heat through the hot water taps and shower, it goes tepid/luke warm but that's about it. The odd thing is that there is definitely scalding hot water in the tank as when I lift the TP&R valve hot water gushes out of the copper release pipe (no leaking on that pipe at all). Water is however leaking steadily from the drain valve at the bottom on the other side of the tank (refer photos). I have attached a hose to this and directed it towards the storm water drain as it was turning my back lawn into mush. It is a Vulcan Freeloader 260 and it has been very reliable up until now. I have checked and the pilot light is on and ignites the burner when I turn up the thermostat, doing this gave hot water for a day, but now no hot water again and turning up the heat no longer works??? It is a strange configuration that I have not been able to find out much about. I think that the cold water is mixing with the hot but the tank does not seem to have a conventional dip tube as the cold water appears to enter the tank from the bottom right side, but not before converging with the hot water pipe at a junction of what appears to be some kind of valve configuration. To be honest I'm not sure how it works. Please can someone who is familiar with this brand and model let me know what the cost might be to repair? I'm hoping it's just a valve replacement. I am only home after 6:00 pm |
